Kia has unveiled plans to integrate Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) technology into its EV9 SUV.

That will enable on demand features and over the air (OTA) software updates, allowing remote purchasing and new software according to owners’ needs.

OTA capability allows the vehicle’s core components and convenience features to be updated remotely without the need to visit a service centre. This is done wirelessly between a cloud server and the vehicle.

Kia plans to continuously expand on demand service offerings.

The automaker has integrated vehicle control units into four functional areas, based on domain centralised architecture. This reduced the number of control units and provided a technology base for streamlining vehicle functions and improving performance.

Digital features and services can be accessed through a newly launched Connect Store which allows owners to add features not included in initial purchase specifications.
