Continental said it was equipping its urban bus tyres with smart sensors.

Starting from August 2023, three smart tyre models will be available.

The incorporation of sensors was claimed to help reduce breakdowns, minimise downtime, lower carbon emissions, and decrease costs.

Customers can retrieve data such as tyre pressure and temperature using apps.

Fleet management can access data through stationary Yard Reader stations or telematics units, allowing prompt action in case of any anomalies.

Continental said national and international fleet customers had already experienced the advantages of the new technology, with punctures reduced by approximately 30%, a 2% fuel saving, and an increase in usable mileage of around 10%.
